Important disclaimer

True Mate (“we”, “us”) is a free information directory. We are not a contractor, agent, broker or job-lead platform and we are not a party to any agreement between you and a tradesperson.

  • Pricing: each tradesperson sets their own prices and terms. We do not set, check, control or guarantee any price, quote or invoice.
  • Payments & disputes: we do not handle money and are not involved in any payment, refund or money dispute. Any dispute is solely between you and the tradesperson.
  • Before hiring: always obtain a clear written quote, agree the scope, timescale and payment terms, and confirm the tradesperson’s details yourself before work begins.

Terms of use

  • The directory is free to use for homeowners, businesses and tradespeople. We do not charge fees, subscriptions or commission.
  • Information is provided in good faith for general guidance. Although we take care to keep listings accurate, we cannot guarantee that every detail is complete or current at all times.
  • Any contract for work is made directly between you and the tradesperson. Your statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, are with the tradesperson.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the quality, cost, timing or outcome of any work carried out by a listed tradesperson. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
  • You must not copy, scrape or misuse content on this website. Third-party logos and trade marks belong to their respective owners.
  • These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

How we verify tradespeople

Before a tradesperson is listed we review, at the time of listing:

  • proof of at least 5 years trading;
  • membership of a recognised accreditation or competent-person scheme (e.g. NICEIC);
  • current public liability insurance;
  • relevant qualifications and compliance documents.

Accreditations and insurance can change. We recommend you confirm registrations directly with the relevant scheme (for example the NICEIC contractor search). Ratings shown are taken from third-party sources such as Google and reflect the date they were checked. If you believe a listing is inaccurate, please tell us.

Privacy policy (UK GDPR)

Who we are: True Mate, [registered business name / address]. We are the data controller for this website.

  • What we collect: postcodes you enter in the search (used only to show you a relevant listing, and not linked to your identity), and any details you choose to send us when you contact us.
  • What we don’t do: we do not sell, rent or pass your personal data to tradespeople or third parties for marketing.
  • Lawful basis: legitimate interests (operating and improving the directory) and, where you contact us, to respond to your enquiry.
  • Retention: enquiry emails are kept for no longer than [12] months unless needed for a legal reason.
  • Your rights: you can request access, correction or deletion of your data, or object to processing, by contacting us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
  • Third-party links: when you visit a tradesperson’s website, call them or message them on WhatsApp, their own privacy policy applies.

Cookies

We use essential cookies needed for the website to function. If we use analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first and you can change your choice at any time. The postcode search stores your postcode temporarily in your browser’s session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab.
